Monday Feb 6, 10am to 6pm
Set within native bush overlooking Aucklands wildest West Coast Beach, the first Waitangi Day Muriwai Festival is a festival with a difference. It's an opportunity for families who live outside Muriwai Beach to drive past the strawberry fields and vineyards of Kumeu to a quiet clearing of native bush at Houghtons Bush Park.
Just 35 minutes from Ponsonby Rd and a short walk from one of NZs most spectacular surf beaches, Anika Moa, Moana & the Tribe, Pacific Curls, Nat Rose, Ardijah, Majic, Maisey Rika and more will be singing the tune that ‘Every Day is Waitangi Day.’
Over 15 painters, photographers, sculptors, jewellers who live in and around Muriwai will be creating, exhibiting and selling new works for a special Waitangi Day Exhibition. A hikoi to a sacred site on the venue is open to those who want to learn more about this beautiful area we live in. In between bands, a series of lively speakers will give their take on the theme from the ‘the Hot Seat’ onstage, while audiences will be invited to buy hangi-in-a-pie…
With all music, art, cuisine, korero and crafts acknowledging 'Every Day is Waitangi Day,' a strict zero waste, alcohol and smoke free policy, the Muriwai Waitangi Day Festival kicks off 2012 on just the right note.
Just as you would expect from ‘the newest little festival in the best little place…’
